Learn about Flags of the Americas May 23 at RPL

Flags of the AmericasWhat was the first flag to fly on the North American continent?

What is the meaning of each fold of the United States flag?

How many different flags have flown over California?

Just in time for Memorial Day and ahead of Flag Day, Ed Stockli, representative of Deerfield American Legion Post 713, will answer those questions and more when he presents Flags of the Americas at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23 at Rodman Public Library.

During the hour-long program, Stockli will display 20 different flags that have flown over North and South America, dating from 500 B.C. to the present day.

With the help of members of Boy Scout Troop 355 from Edinburg, Stockli will begin the evening by explaining the items on a POW-MIA (Prisoner of War-Missing in Action) table and what each symbolizes. He will follow it up by showing the proper way to fold a U.S. flag and explain what each of the folds symbolizes.

He will then discuss each of the 20 historic flags prior to a question-and-answer session.

Registration is required for the event.
