RPL Asks: What's your favorite holiday story, song or movie?

In honor of the season, we asked patrons to share with us their favorite holiday story, song or movie. Here's what they had to say:

Brent Barnes

BRENT BARNES

“It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s one of the iconic Christmas films. It captures the spirit of the holiday. He sort of looks back at his life. At Christmas, it’s good to look back at your year and see what you did, see what you could do better, but to also see the good that you did do.

Bob Burgess BOB BURGESS

â€œNational Lampoons Christmas Vacation is my favorite holiday movie. It’s a great comedy. The scene where Clark is putting up the lights reminds me of when I was growing up.”

BARB BURLEYBarb Burley

“’Santa Claus is Coming To Town’ is my favorite holiday TV show. I always went to my grandmother’s house to watch it and have dinner whenever it was going to be on TV.”

Adam Christian ADAM CHRISTIAN

â€œMy favorite Christmas story is ’Twas the Night Before Christmas.  It's so much fun to see my kids filled with excitement as we read it around the fireplace on Christmas Eve.”

GARY CONNYGary Conny

“For me, Christmas does not start until I have watched two movies A Christmas Carol and It’s A Wonderful Life. With Scrooge, we are reminded that it matters what we do for others. With It’s A Wonderful Life, we are reminded that we are all important. That if you weren’t here, think of how many things would be different.

Shaun Fontaine SHAUN FONTAINE

â€œI read A Christmas Carol sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. I like the redemption aspect with Scrooge and there’s a lot of humanness to the story.”

BILL KENNICKBill Kennick

“My favorite Christmas movie is It’s A Wonderful Life. I like Jimmy Stewart. Plus, it’s sentimental and at Christmas, you want to be sentimental. I like the flashback of what would have happened if he weren’t alive. It’s a very life-affirming film.”

Gail Murdoch GAIL MURDOCH

â€œâ€™Joy to the World’ is my favorite Christmas song. I have always associated that song with the joy of Christmas.”

NICK STREZANick Streza

“My favorite Christmas movie is The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant and Loretta Young. I like the scene where the angel, Dudley, keeps filling up the professor’s wine glass when he isn’t looking. It’s a very down to earth story and not so much about Christmas, but it was a really good comedy.”

Liam Taggart LIAM TAGGART

â€œHome Alone. It’s a funny movie. The whole plot is meant to make you laugh. The one bandit, Marv, is not very good at his job, and Kevin has a good way of keeping his home from being robbed of its goods.”

AMY WALLACEAmy Wallace

“The Family Stone is my favorite Christmas movie. It’s about a family who comes together for Christmas and while they are all a little bit different, they are still all family. The mom has cancer and is dying and it is their last Christmas together. We’ve all had those human experiences and it just speaks to me. I watch it all year round.”

Amanda Weber AMANDA WEBER

â€œI have three favorite movies. A Christmas Carol for all the obvious reasons. White Christmas for all the music and the storyline, and A Christmas Story because no matter how many times I see it, it’s still funny.”

JACKSON WEBERJackson Weber

“I like How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The rhyming is very entertaining to me.”

Kelly Wehner KELLY WEHNER

â€œI like ‘O Holy Night.’ I like the depiction of the birth of Christ and the hope that it brings.”

MARSHA WEHNERMarsha Wehner

“My favorite Christmas song is ‘Silent Night.” Attending Christmas Eve service, the lights would be dimmed and we would all be holding lit candles and singing this song.”
