Everyone has heard of CPR, but there is another technique called QPR that can also save a life.
QPR (Question. Persuade. Refer.) is an evidence-based training that teaches three simple steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide.
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help
save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to help
someone in crisis seek the support they need.
The Stark County Suicide Prevention Coalition will provide
free training in QPR at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21 at Rodman Public Library.
During the 90-minute trainings, individuals will learn:
The prevalence of suicide in Stark County.
How to ask directly if someone is thinking about
suicide.
The common causes of suicidal behavior.
The warning signs of suicide.
How to get help for someone in crisis.
Suicide prevention happens in everyday conversations with
ordinary people. With the number of individuals that die by suicide each day,
there is a high probability that you will come in contact with someone
struggling with suicidal thoughts.
Registration is required to attend the QPR training at
Rodman Library at https://starkmhar.org/event/qpr-question-persuade-refer-9/
.
