Juneteenth is the newest federal holiday in the United States, yet many Americans do not understand what it celebrates.

James Sedoris is a member of the RPL Bookmobile staff who has been with the library for nearly 11 years.

Here's some things to know about James:

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love getting to know kids on the Bookmobile as they grow  from preschoolers to fifth-graders, and helping them figure out what kinds of books they like along the way.

Everyone has heard of CPR, but there is another technique called QPR that can also save a life.

QPR (Question. Persuade. Refer.) is an evidence-based training that teaches three simple steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide.

During a six-week run of Thursdays between June 15 and July 20, Book Fest will be held at Rodman Public Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and will feature a different presenter each week.  

Book Fest will be followed by crafts from 11 a.m. to noon. Children can stay for both activities, or attend only one and registration is not required for either.

The popular Teen Chopped will make its return to the RPL Main Auditorium from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13.

Maker Monday crafters will create a suncatcher when they meet Monday, June 12 at 7 p.m. in Rodman Public Library’s Main Auditorium.

Teens are invited to get creative this summer during Crafternoons at Rodman Public Library.

Alliance Vinyl Club will meet at Rodman Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7.

Although it is called a club, there is no formal membership and no registration is required to attend the program, which is open to all music lovers. Those attending are encouraged to bring in some of their favorite records to play for others.

Summertime means Storytime at Rodman Branch Library.

Each Tuesday, from June 6 through July 25, two identical Storytime sessions will be held – one at 10:30 a.m. and another at 11:30 a.m. at the Branch.

Each week will feature different stories and activities related to the 2023 Summer Reading Program theme of All Together Now.
